Maghull Baptist Church holds the name of Jesus Christ in highest honour through Worship, Instruction, Service and supremely bringing others into a living relationship with Him. (MBC Mission Statement)

Maghull Baptist Church is a suburban church on the edge of Liverpool. There is current church work in all ages from créche to the elderly.

The work in Maghull was started in the late 1940's, the first building being erected in 1951 on what had previously been the rhubarb patch on a local farm, owned by one of the founder members. This is now the church hall, with a new worship area being built in 1976.

Theologically, MBC is evangelical with some aspects of charismatic renewal, with "seeker" style services and events as part of the outreach of the Church. The Alpha Course and Christianity Explored also play an important role in helping people discover Jesus.

Starting with the seeker events, MBC uses a multi-media approach to communicating the gospel. The all-age service is a family-orientated service using computer presentations, video, drama, dance and music, including a youth orchestra who play for this.

The Minister works with a team of Elders and Deacons. The overall vision statement of the church is that MBC might enable people to Know, Grow and Go , as each of us take our own journey through our relationship with Jesus.

What we believe -

Maghull Baptist Church is a Christian church following the teaching of the Baptist denomination.

We believe that Jesus Christ was the Son of God, that he lived among us and died for the wrong things we have done. After that, He rose again to be with His Father in Heaven but the Holy Spirit is with us to empower us. We believe that the Holy Bible is the Word of God and that the Holy Spirit through the Bible shows us God's way for living.

We believe that people are the church and that together the people in the local church can work effectively in the local community to demonstrate God's love to that community. The local church governs itself with support from the local churches, local Baptist Churches and regional/national Baptist leaders.

For more information on this, please either contact us or read through the Baptist Union of Great Britain's description of "Being a Baptist".

Leadership -

At Maghull Baptist Church, the Pastor operates as the team leader, working with elders and deacons.

Ultimately, the pastor, elders and deacons serve the membership of MBC and are elected by the members to provide direction for the church. The final authority rests with the members who meet regularly to discuss with the leadership team the direction being taken. The leadership team operates on behalf of the members in the day-to-day running of the church.

The elders support the pastor spiritually and assist him in discerning God's will for the instruction, guidance and care of those who attend MBC and those who request pastoral counselling.

The deacons support the pastor in the administration and operation of the church and all its associated organisations. The secretary and treasurer are elected from within the team of deacons.

Together the Leadership team meet regularly to discern God's will for the overall direction of the church.

Membership -

Being a member of MBC brings with it certain privileges and also responsibilities, to God and to each other. All members are encouraged to work through the ideals below.

  1. Living Victoriously: God has dealt with my sin once and for all. When I am tempted or when I commit a sin, I can go straight for forgiveness because now I actually want to be like Jesus and go with Him all the way. Each day is a new beginning.

  2. Worshipping Regularly: Unless I have a genuine reason my place is in Church on Sunday, both morning and evening, sharing in the highest activity of which my human nature is capable - worship.

  3. Reading my Bible daily: This is my daily food and I need it. If I find some of it hard to understand, I can get help from books and Bible classes. I cannot grow without this. It is the bread of life!

  4. Praying Continually: Especially when I don’t feel like it or when I feel that I am just talking to myself. I must keep on praying. Prayer is the air my soul breathes. I can give thanks, pray for others, ask forgiveness and be still in His presence. I can open my heart to God. God answers prayer in His own way and prayer changes things.

  5. Bearing my Witness: Overcoming my nerves I am ready to speak up for my Lord whatever company I am in, and that word must be matched by an honest, pure and unselfish, dependable life. I must watch how I speak and take a smile with me. This is the life.

  6. Empowering my Church: A church strong in prayer is a strong church. I know it is harder to pray as part of the team but that is why I need to be part of the praying church and never be absent from the communion service or the church at prayer.

  7. Governing the Church: Under God I am privileged to help in deciding and discovering what God would have his Church to be and do. This is why I should never miss a Church meeting.

  8. Giving: I must give what I can honestly afford. A tenth is often a good guide. The more I receive the more I can give.

  9. Serving: I have gifts and talents to use for serving God by serving others. It may be only a small talent but the more I use it the brighter it grows. I lose it when I do not use it. Because of Jesus, I am privileged to do some jobs that others will not do. I am saved to serve.

  10. Belonging: Not only to my own church fellowship but also to the people of Christ in the town and country and throughout the world. Wherever I go I need Christian fellowship to keep spiritually alive and sensitive. Without this I may shrivel and start to die.

  11. Living in the World: As Jesus did - not seeking to escape from it. Because I belong to Christ I can be a better worker, a better trade unionist, a better employee, a better informed and responsible citizen of this world. I am involved in this world of people because Jesus is involved with them and all their problems.

  12. Trusting Him: And not my feelings. My job is not to do what I feel like doing but what I know I ought to do. Everyone goes through depressing times, so will I. I will also go through doubt and sorrow and have feelings of hurt and be offended but I do not trust my feelings. I trust the Lord Jesus Christ and His promises.
